Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

As we labor to bring the saving message of Christ to the world, we inevitably face formidable gaps which we realize we must bridge. Many people today are just caught up in the world’s pleasure and activities and are therefore distracted from facing the essential question regarding their spiritual state.

One major distraction is the world’s passion for sports. The fact is millions of people across the globe devote a great deal of their time, energy, and resources to indulge in some sport activity.  This obsession has therefore muted the message of the Gospel in their ears and has set a chasm between them and the church of Jesus Christ.

But the situation need not remain this way. We believe that this gap can be bridged by using sports itself as a vehicle to effectively bring the Gospel to the world.

In this regard Higher Rock Christian Church, in partnership with Church Sports International (CSI), is establishing “Winning for Christ”, a three-day seminar on building and implementing an effective church sports ministry.

Our main speaker is Rodger Oswald, founder and Executive Director of CSI based in Sacramento, California. He is a much-sought after international speaker who has taught creative methods of using sports and recreation as church planting or church growth tools. His seminars have benefited a number of local churches, mission agencies, and para-church ministries in various countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. He is also credited for developing The Master’s College curriculum for undergraduate degree in Sports Ministry.

“Winning for Christ” will deal with various topics which include: “Definition and Significance of Sports Ministry”, “Theological and Biblical Foundations for Sports Ministry”, “Why Should a Church Have a Sports Ministry”, “Overcoming Obstacles to Sports Ministry”, “Developing a Leadership Team”, “Starting a Sports Ministry in the Local Church”, “Recruiting and Training Leadership for a Sports Ministry”, “Creative Evangelism through Sports and Recreation”, “Evangelistic Instructional Sports Camps and Clinics”, “Discipleship through Sports and Recreation”, “Competition and Christianity”, “Shepherd-Coach Training”, “Planting and Growing Churches through Sports and Recreation”, “Creating Your Own Devotional Material”, “From the Game to the Worship Center” and “Administrative Issues in Managing a Sports Ministry.”
